Nepal VS Mongolia |
The men's cricket team from Nepal created history on Wednesday at the Asian Games cricket competition in Hangzhou, China, when they broke the records for the highest-ever T20I total, the fastest fifty, and the fastest century by a player. During their game against Mongolia, they were successful in doing this.
The men's cricket competition at the continental meet also gets underway with this game. Nepal scored 314/3 in their 20 overs throughout the game. The amount surpasses Afghanistan's 278/3 against Ireland in 2019 to become the highest-ever T20I total.
They also hit 26 sixes in total, which is a record for a team in an inning in the history of the format. They surpassed Afghanistan's record of 22 sixes, which they set in 2019 and used to help them achieve 278/3.
They did, however, break the T20I cricket records for the fastest fifty and century. The Nepalese all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee broke Yuvraj Singh's record of a 12-ball fifty against England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2007, in which he destroyed Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over, by reaching his half-century in just nine balls. Airee finished the game with 52 runs in just 10 balls, eight of which were sixes. His 520 strike rate is also the highest ever recorded in a T20I innings.
Kushal Malla also outperformed T20I legends like David Miller of South Africa and Rohit Sharma of India by scoring the fastest T20I century ever in just 34 balls. Malla scored 137 runs in 50 balls, including eight fours and twelve sixes.
Notably, Rohit and Miller both have the record for 35-ball hundreds, but Malla has already broken it by destroying a hapless Mongolian bowling attack.
As Nepal went on to defeat Mongolia by 273 runs, another T20I record, they were bowled out for just 41 runs.
On October 3, the quarterfinal match will mark the beginning of India's men's cricket season. On October 7, there will be a title match.
