The Taste of Things will represent France in the Best International Feature category at the 2024 Academy Awards. For those who have been following the competition, this comes as a surprise because it was anticipated that Justine Triet's Anatomy of Fall would win.
Anatomy of Fall was anticipated to be the movie with the best potential of winning other Oscars, including the lead actress category, which includes Sandra Hüller, who, coincidentally, also stars in the United Kingdom's International entry, The Zone of Interest. This year's Cannes Film Festival, where The Taste of Things had its debut, awarded Anatomy of Fall the Palme d'Or.
Anatomy of a Fall by Justine Triet takes home the Palme d'Or at Cannes.
The Passionate Epicure, written by Marcel Rouffe in 1924, was adapted into the film The Taste of Things (original title: The Pot-au-Feu). Juliette Binoche and Benoit Magimel play two chefs who fall in love and remain together for 20 years in the 19th century in the movie directed by Trn Anh Hùng.
Neon, which purchased the movie's North American distribution rights, will give it a full Oscar campaign. Sons of Ramses by Clement Cogitore, The Animal Kingdom by Thomas Cailley, and On The Wandering Paths by Denis Imbert are among the films that the French committee has shortlisted. Since Les Misérables' 2019 Oscar nomination, France has not received a nomination. It's interesting that the nation was included on the Oscar shortlist for Saint Omer last year.
