The Ford Explorer has undergone multiple recalls in 2023 due to various defects identified across different models. Here are the details of the latest recalls:
1. Turbocharger
Oil Supply Line Defect (Recall Date: 24-8-2023):
Vehicles
affected: 2023 Ford Explorer vehicles equipped with 2.3L GTDI engines.
Issue: The turbocharger oil supply line may be damaged, causing an
oil leak inside the engine compartment.
Risks: The oil leak, in the presence of an ignition source like a
hot engine or exhaust components, can increase the fire risk. Also, the loss of
oil can result in an engine stall, further raising the crash risk.
Remedial
Action: Owners are advised to park and shut off the engine immediately if
they notice an oil pressure warning light or smoke coming from the engine
compartment. Dealers will replace the turbo oil supply line assembly for free.
The owner notification letters were mailed on September 8, 2023.
2. 360-Degree
Camera System Defect (Recall Date:11-5- 2023):
Vehicles
affected: 2020-2023 Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, and 2020-2022 Lincoln
Corsair vehicles equipped with a 360-degree camera.
Issue: The video output may fail, preventing the rearview camera
image from displaying.
Risks: Loss of the rearview camera image can reduce the driver's
rear visibility, increasing the crash risk.
Remedial Action: Dealers will replace the 360degree
camera free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on July
10, 2023, with final notifications expected to be mailed in July 2023
3. Automatic
Transmission Defect (Recall Date: 09-02-2023):
Vehicles
affected: 2022-2023 Ford Explorer, F150, Mustang, Bronco, and 2023 Lincoln
Aviator vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions.
Issue:
The transmission may contain a loose bolt preventing the engagement of the park
gear, even though the gear shifter position may indicate "PARK".
Risks: Inability to secure the vehicle in the park position can
result in a rollaway, increasing the crash or injury risk.
Remedial
Action: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transmissions
free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 25, 2023
These
recalls are essential to address and rectify to ensure the safety and
