The Godfather, a Hollywood movie, served as inspiration for Kamal Haasan's 1987 film Nayakan. It is also thought to be partially inspired on Varadarajan Mudaliar, a Don in the Bombay underworld.
The South's film industry is home to some of the biggest celebrities, like Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam. The actor-director team collaborated on the hugely successful Nayakan back in 1987. Yes, you heard it right, now movie fans may watch the epic crime drama once more. Prior to Kamal Haasan's birthday, the Mani Ratnam-directed film will receive a major re-release in 4K. This year, Nayakan will return to movie theatres on November 3 before the Vikram actor turns 69 on November 7.
All About the Grand Re-release of Nayakan by Kamal Haasan
The movie's distributors just published the Nayakan re-release poster on social media. According to the poster, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka will all receive broad releases of the critically acclaimed drama. For the uninitiated, the Hollywood film The Godfather served as an inspiration for the plot of the great movie. It is also thought to be loosely based on Don Varadarajan Mudaliar, a member of the Bombay underworld.
Velu Naicker (Kamal Haasan), a regular slum dweller, was unimaginably transformed into a crime boss in Nayakan. Janagaraj, Vijayan, M. V. Vasudeva Rao, Delhi Ganesh, Nizhalgal Ravi, Nassar, and Tara could be seen playing supporting parts alongside Saranya and Karthika in the film. Even Dayavan, a Hindi remake of Nayakan, was released in 1988. This masterwork features heart-melting music by renowned musician Ilaiyaraaja and laudable camera work by PC Sreeram.
